I was going through last years D Conference and came across Steve Jobs describing Apple’s stance on privacy:

Privacy means people know what they’re signing up for, in plain English, and repeatedly. That’s what it means.

I’m an optimist. I believe people are smart, and some people want to share more data than other people do. Ask them. Ask them every time. Make them tell you to stop asking them if they get tired of you asking them. Let them know precisely what you’re going to do with their data. That’s what we think.

The privacy discussion begins at about 1:09:30 into the full video of the interview.

I just love waiting every 3-4 months for a new launch by Steve Jobs… There is no doubt that Apple destroys its rival in the consumer electronics sector… With superior and sexy hardware design and a outstanding OS, Apple stands strong with it’s zero debt, recession-proof quarterly earnings increases and Pod, iPhone, iPad, and Mac sales…

The simple answer to why Apple is such a position is quite simple…

1) Apple goes against common business practices… They do what they want, and inevitably end up setting trends… Just look at how late in the phone business Apple came in, yet they set the standards for it… The same goes for them not jumping into the “netbook market and instead releasing the trend-setting iPad a year later… The lesson here is to have the courage to follow your gut instinct, not what the trend and market dictates…

2) Apple pays a lot of attention to what no one else in the industry cares about… Quality of the electronic equipment is one of the important reasons for the success of Apple…

3) Marketing… Apple markets all its products till they reach top of the hill…

So whatever it is you do, simply care about details that none of your competitors care about…

Steve Jobs daring comments on Google and Adobe during Apple’s company wide “Town Hall” meeting at corporate headquarters, is surely gonna be criticized over this week…

Taken from WIRED :

On Google: We did not enter the search business, Jobs said. They entered the phone business. Make no mistake they want to kill the iPhone. We won’t let them, he says. Someone else asks something on a different topic, but there’s no getting Jobs off this rant. I want to go back to that other question first and say one more thing, he says. This don’t be evil mantra: “It’s bullshit.” Audience roars.

About Adobe: They are lazy, Jobs says. They have all this potential to do interesting things but they just refuse to do it. They don’t do anything with the approaches that Apple is taking, like Carbon. Apple does not support Flash because it is so buggy, he says. Whenever a Mac crashes more often than not it’s because of Flash. No one will be using Flash, he says. The world is moving to HTML5.

Looks like Jobs not happy with businesses not being Apple-friendly now days…. ;)
