What is it about Apple???

One questions has been bugging me for a long time… “What is it about Apple, that it generates such a massive following???”

I know numerous people who just have to buy the latest thing Apple has to offer… One of these Apple nerds bought the latest iTouch even though he had got the newest iPhone just a month back… Couple of them have to buy ever iPod that comes out, just to through the last one on eBay or Amazon… This sort of fanatical behaviour is an obsession with people…

Oscar Wilde once said “I have the simplest of tastes, I am always satisfied with the best”

But still why waste so much money on it??? Now we have people waiting in line all night buying multiple iPads… So why are people so mad about what Apple cooks ???

So Apple have made their announcement and they’ve gone with the name iPad… Quite a surprise considering my understanding was that the trademark of iPad belonged to another company in the US…

Steve Jobs took the stage today and officially introduced his iPad to the world… It appears as if the iPhone got the super-size treatment, complete with a home button….

At only half an inch thin, and sporting a 9.7″ screen, the iPad weighs in at only one and a half pounds…. It’s powered by Apple’s very own chip(A4)… Available with 16, 32, or 64GB flash storage, and has 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. Oh, and you can run it for 10 hours while watching videos….

Surprising for Apple, NO built-in camera… This is one feature you would expect from Apple…. There is also no microphone, so programs like Skype, iChat etc. are out of the question for now anyway…. This was surprising for me to hear as there will be a 3G model, so i assume you can insert a SIM card, therefore it would have been nice to have the option to use the iPad as a mobile phone..

You will be able to use iWork with the iPad but this does not come standard with the iPad and can be bought separately from the App store… The SDK already downloadable on Apple’s homepage, maybe there will be a Microsoft office coming soon…

As for pricing of the device itself, it starts at $499, which is a very low cost of entry…. It will get you the 16GB base model without 3G… $599 will get you the 32GB Wi-Fi only model, and $699 will bump you up to 64GB… With 3G, the prices are $629, $729 and $829 respectively for the different storage capacities….

Apple also announced the release of the new iBooks store where you’ll be able to purchase visual books… The new iBook store looks visually mesmerizing with rich colors and Accessibility built in meaning you could have text read to you..

Condé Nast Gets Ready for Apple Tablet!!!

The Apple Tablet has been something of a holy grail for gadget fiends. Now publishers are enlisting in the cause with just as much fervor. Condé Nast says it is already racing to repackage its magazines for Apple’s forthcoming tablet, starting with Wired, even while the device doesn’t exist. Publishers are clearly betting Steve Jobs can save their business model.

Condé’s plan, meanwhile, is to create digital versions of its magazines that will work on all the upcoming tablets, using new software from Adobe. Those tablets aren’t actually on the market yet, but the publisher says it’s confident that we’ll soon see multiple versions of machines featuring large color touchscreens and wireless connections.

Adobe is creating a publishing tool for the new format, as well as magazine-reader software that may come pre-installed on the devices or may require a download. The software company says it is working exclusively with Condé now, but will offer its tools to other publishers next year.
