Resignation vs. Appraisal!!!

January 21st, 2010

Just can’t stop laughing… :D Found a gem of an article on the net….

Difference between appraisal and resignation

A newly joined trainee engineer asks his boss “what is the meaning of appraisal?”

Boss: “Do you know the meaning of resignation? ”

Trainee: “Yes I do”

Boss: “So let me make you understand what a appraisal is by comparing it with resignation”

Comparison study : Appraisal and Resignation

********************

In appraisal meeting they will speak only about your weakness, errors and failures.

In resignation meeting they will speak only about your strengths, past achievements and success.

********************

In appraisal you may need to cry and beg for even 10% hike.

In resignation you can easily demand (or get even without asking) more than 50-60% hike.

********************

During appraisal, they will deny promotion saying you didn’t meet the expectation, you don’t have leadership qualities, and you had several drawbacks in our objective/goal.

During resignation, they will say you are the core member of team; you are the vision of the company how can you go, you have to take the project in shoulder and lead your juniors to success.

********************

There is 90% chance for not getting any significant incentives after appraisal.

There is 90% chance of getting immediate hike after you put the resignation.

********************

Trainee: “Yes boss enough, now I understood my future. For an appraisal I will have to resign … !!!”

********************

Hacking is an Art…

January 19th, 2010

One of my major interests and what I really like to do is hacking… and guys it doesn’t mean breaking laws by breaking into Defense sites.. ;) By hacking, I mean developing software…. software that is not for a “paying” customer, but developing just for the fun of it… Lets put it this way.. It’s my hobby… As its not for a client.. Its something that I do when ever i get free time from my hectic routine @work…

When I tell anyone that i love to hack rather than watch so called rubbish Reality serials on my idiot box.. the first thing they as is WHY??? The answer is quite simple.. When i hack i’m free to do what i want with the code… No deadline, no particular schedule and the best part is no one to point out that certain requirements weren’t met… It’s like i have the freedom to work as i like and when i want… If i feel like i could rip up the code and start all over again.. or if i want work on the existing code… I find it to be a cyclic process.. First you make a code that has certain issue with it, then you again develop on top of it to make it stable… and again this process is repeated multiple times till you land with a good you like… So its a long and extensive cycle…

Recently i was going through an article written by Paul Graham where he highlights the analogy between hackers and painters… It struck me then that yes hacking and painting have many similar properties… Both hacking and painting take time.. There is no particular schedule to any of the two… Both are creations in there respective fields… One of the first people how came to my mind while reading this article is Why the lucky stiff… Hez a real artist and a mind blowing hacker… Hacking is an art, and hackers should act as artists…

I recommend you to read the article if your a hacker and change your profession from Software Developer to Software Artist… :)

January 27 – It’s Obama vs Jobs!!!

January 19th, 2010

On January 27, Barack Obama would outline plans for pressing issues like the deficit, immigration, maybe global warming…. The same day, Steve Jobs would be holding up new, expensive plastic gadget…. Whose gonna win?? Surely both would get some press coverage… But it’s hard not to wonder which press conference would people be more excited about…

Pretty sure President’s PA ran into his office screaming ”Mr. President, we have problem..” ;)

Anyways i’m eagerly looking forward to Apple’s “Come see our latest creation” event on 27th Jan.. President’s deficit and immigration can wait a couple of days… :)

MIT Students Take Pictures from Near-space for $150!!!

December 7th, 2009

Take two students from MIT + $150 + a notion to use a little science to make a little art….. and what do you get??? Eight gigabytes of near-space photographs and an experience to share to the rest of the world of citizen scientists!!! :)

A group of MIT students spent $150 to send a digital camera into the stratosphere to take photographs of the earth from near space. While the idea is not new, the MIT students claim that their launch and successful photography endeavor is the cheapest launch to date. The group built the craft with a weather balloon, helium, a Canon A470 digital camera, an ice chest, and a Motorola i290 prepaid cell phone that served as the GPS tracking device. Their balloon flew 17.5 miles up and returned five hours later.
