The Nokia E63!!!

Bought the Nokia E63 for my birthday!!! :D

Nokia E63 is the next QWERTY messenger by Nokia, set on the glorious path of the E71. Only this time it slips off the high heels to walk it in plain straight and simple boots instead… ;) Would like to share my opinion of the phone…

There is no 3G on vodafone network in India currently so wasn’t able to try it out.. But the e63 comes with built in WiFi so all my emails and web surfing is done at no extra cost where ever I find WiFi. Some of the features of the e63 include a 3.5mm headphone jack, full qwerty keyboard, 3g (no HSPDA), a 2mp camera with a LED flash which doubles as a torch, expandable memory and runs Symbian s60 v3 on a 366mhz processor. The only flaw from my side would be the lack of dedicated rocker keys…

Keyboard

The small buttons on the keyboard might look hard to hit with your fingers but they are curved and typing is a breeze… I have fairly large hands but still I faced no problem what so ever in hitting the right keys.. I have typed out some fairly large emails on it and most of this post was written from my phone using WPhone, a plugin for wordpress that adds an option at the login screen that makes the dashboard easy to work with from a mobile browser. The keys have a nice rubbery feel and the shift, and control keys make you feel like your working on a normal keyboard. Copy and past is done through the standard ‘ctrl+c’, ‘ctrl+v’ commands or through the phones menus. Holding down the shift key also allows you to select text as on a computer.

Applications

The thing I really like about the phone is the amount of applications available… In just a few days I found a multitude of applications.. One of the best apps i like is the search app..its set up on the home screen by default and searches messages, emails, calender, events, contacts, to-do’s, notes, other files and the internet, it uses a live search so the results are instant…

Camera

The camera on the e63 is 2mp and as you can expect it doesn’t do great shots. Compared to every other 2mp camera it is fairly standard and has an LED flash that doubles as a torch. It is a downgrade from the previously released nokia e71 which had a 3.2mp camera. Realistically if your going to be taking serious photos that need to be good quality get a real camera, for every day snapping the camera on the e63 is fine. The camera application has all the standard features of a basic camera phone. Nothing special here…

Overall it is a great phone, the only thing that annoys me is the lack of dedicated rocker keys, but its something which i’l get over…  I would definitely recommend it to anyone whose looking for a cheap QWERTY cellphone.. :)
