Facebook iPhone App Developer Quits!!!

November 12th, 2009

Joe Hewitt is the individual behind the massively popular Facebook mobile app on the Apple iPhone platform. He tweeted yesterday that he’s done with the project:

Time for me to try something new. I’ve handed the Facebook iPhone app off to another engineer, and I’m onto a new project.

Hewitt has stated that he decided to stop working on the Facebook mobile app for iPhone because of the Apple review process which has been inconsistent since the very beginning. He is now working on a web based thing for Facebook. He did not reveal what he plans to work on next.

According to TechCrunch:

My decision to stop iPhone development has had everything to do with Apple’s policies,” Hewitt says. “I respect their right to manage their platform however they want, however I am philosophically opposed to the existence of their review process. I am very concerned that they are setting a horrible precedent for other software platforms, and soon gatekeepers will start infesting the lives of every software developer.
