Top linux games…..

I play alot of games as they act as stress busters (even though i’m never in stress of studies or life now days. :) ). Its annoying for me to log into windows to play a game and then log back into ubuntu to surf the net and sometimes study :P. Here is are some of games that i usually play in ubuntu:

1. Second life

Its an online virtual world game, where residents go about exploring, socializing and participating in activities, buy through the currency Linden Dollar (L$) that can be EXCHANGED to US dollar in a marketplace. The makers of Second Life are Linden Lab, their intention was to create a world like the METAVERSE described by Neal Stephenson in his novel, Snow Crash. Its an extremely popular game now days. The basic account is free but you got to pay up to own a part of the “virtual land”.

2. America’s Army

A first person shooter game that is owned by the United States Government, it is released as an initiative to help in recruitment of army personal in the U.S. Army(I wish the Indian government would take a step like this rather than publish page long advertisement in the newspaper which maybe only a few people ever look at). The game also has a multiplayer mode and is ranked in the top 10 online games chart.

3. Tux Racer

A 3D-computer game staring the Linux mascot TUX the penguin. Being open source the game can be modified from anyone so one can never get bored. New maps are uploaded by users nearly everyday.

4. Scorched 3D

A turn-based artillery game modeled after the classic DOS game Scorched Earth “The Mother Of All Games”. Unlike Scorched Earth however, it is available free in its entirety. Also, Scorched 3D adds, amongst other new features, a 3D island environment and LAN and internet play. Scorched 3D is a open source game for both Microsoft Windows and Unix-like (Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, Solaris, etc.) operating systems.

5. Flight Gear

It is a free, open-source multi-platform flight simulator developed by the FlightGear project in 1997. The project had its first release in 1997 and continued in development, with specific builds for a variety of operating systems including Microsoft Windows (Win 32), Mac OS X, Linux, IRIX, and Solaris. Its exciting to mess around with the plane. ;)

6. TrueCombat: Elite

7. RACER:The Real Deal

Racer is a free car simulation game, It is using real car physics to get a realistic feeling. It uses OpenGL for rendering. It attempts to do well at the physics section, trying to create life-like cars to emphasize car control and doesn’t cut back on realism in the interest of fun. Its similar to Grand Prix Legends from Papyrus.

8. OpenTTD: Business Simulator

It is an open source clone of the Microprose game “Transport Tycoon Deluxe”, a popular game originally written by Chris Sawyer. It attempts to mimic the original game as closely as possible while extending it with new features.
